フリーランスで技術翻訳、論文チェックを行っている堀江です。前回の記事（機械翻訳を使って技術翻訳をしてみた　パート1）では企業ホームページ内にある技術的文章をグーグル翻訳し、精度を検証しました。今回は企業のウエブサイトには欠かせない会社紹介の文章にグーグル翻訳を使った場合どのような訳がでるのか検証してみたいと思います。

今回も岸本工業様にご協力をいただきホームページの一部を翻訳させていただきました。原文、グーグル翻訳、修正案の順に記載します。

品質理念

まず品質理念についてグーグル翻訳してみます。

原文

・品質理念

1. 当社の品質活動の起点は、顧客第一主義とします。
2. 当社は、顧客の要求事項を確実に履行いたします。
3. 当社は、顧客の要求事項を確実に履行するための、調査と研鑽を行います。
4. 当社は、品質マネジメントシステムを順次構築し、維持・改善を継続します。

Google　翻訳

・Quality philosophy

1. The starting point of our quality activities is customer-first.
2. We will ensure that our customers’ requirements are met.
3. We carry out research and study to ensure that our customers’ requirements are fulfilled.
4. We will build a quality management system one after another and continue to maintain and improve it.

修正案

・Our philosophy on quality

1. Our quality management activities are based on a “customer-first” philosophy.
2. We ensure that our customers’ requirements are met.
3. In order to ensure that our customers’ requirements are met, we carry out research and study.
4. We administer a quality management system that can be maintained and improved over time.

ポイント

（1）タイトルには“品質理念”と書いてあり、日本語文章には“当社”とは書いていませんが、英語にしたときには“Our”と入っていたほうがよいと思います。

（2）最初の文章ですがQuality activitiesという言い回しよりはQuality assurance activities, quality control activities など間に言葉を入れて使うほうが多いと思います。今回は仮訳としてquality management activitiesとしました（後の文章に品質マネジメントシステムと書いてあるので）が、場合より使い分けるとよいと思います。また“顧客第一主義”は理念なので“customer-first” だけではなく“customer-first” philosophy　としました。

（3）2番目の文章ですがグーグル翻訳をそのまま使って問題ないと思います。一か所訂正するとしたら、これから履行（未来）ではなく、すでに履行されていると思うの“will”は、抜きました。4番目の文章もwillがグーグル翻訳に入っていますが、これもすでに構築されていると思いますので“will”は、抜きました（willを入れると今までやってこなかったような感じにもとれるので）。

環境理念

次に環境理念についてグーグル翻訳していきます。

原文

・環境理念

1. 当社の生産・販売活動に関わる環境関連法規・規制・条例を遵守します。
2. 当社の生産・販売活動中に必要なエネルギーの省力化を図ります。
3. 「地球資源のロスなき消費」のスローガンのもと、発生する紙及び廃棄物の削減を図ります。
4. 購入部材の必要調達量を配慮し、死蔵品の発生を抑制します。
5. 上記項目は、経営責任者により一元管理されるとともに、全社員に周知させます。

Google　翻訳

・Environmental philosophy

1. We will comply with environment-related laws, regulations and regulations related to our production and sales activities.
2. We will work to save energy required during our production and sales activities.
3. Under the slogan “Consumption without loss of global resources,” we will strive to reduce the amount of paper and waste generated.
4. We will reduce the occurrence of dead goods by considering the required procurement amount of purchased materials.
5. The above items will be centrally managed by the management and will be made known to all employees.

修正案

・Our philosophy on the environment

1. We comply with environmental laws, regulations and ordinances related to our production and sales activities.
2. We strive to reduce the energy required for our production and sales activities.
3. Under the theme of “Sustainable resource consumption”, we strive to reduce the amount of paper and waste generated.
4. We minimize the occurrence of dead stock by carefully considering the required amount of materials to be procured.
5. The above items are centrally managed by the management team and are made known to all employees.

ポイント

（1）タイトルの“環境理念”ですが、こちらも“品質理念”のときと同じように、“Our”と入っていたほうがよいと思います。

（2）“地球資源のロスなき消費” の訳として“Sustainable resource consumption”としました。“Sustainable” や“Sustainability”と言う言葉は企業の環境問題に対する取り組みによく使われる単語です。

（3）“購入部材の必要調達量”の訳はグーグルでは“procurement amount of purchased materials”となっていますが“procurement“という言葉は調達（購買含む）という意味なので“purchased ” という言葉は修正案では抜きました。
